How Your Income Tax Return Will Be Prepared

When you call for an appointment or schedule an appointment online, we will suggest a place for you to pick up an Intake/Interview Booklet. You can also download and complete the document from here. We ask that you complete the Intake/Interview information prior to your appointment to reduce the time you are with us in-person.

How AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Can Help You Today

When you arrive for your appointment, a Tax-Aide volunteer will look at your government issued photo ID and Social Security information, review all your documents – including your 2021 tax return that you brought with you - and conduct an intake interview with you. Then we will prepare your 2022 tax return. When your return is finished, one of our Counselors will review the completed return with you. You will have an opportunity to ask questions. You will be asked to sign an IRS Form 8879. Your signature on the Form 8879 (1) authorizes us to e-file your return on your behalf and (2) acknowledges that you understand you are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the return. You will receive the original Form 8879 with your signature and a paper copy of your tax return(s) prior to leaving the site. We will provide you with any items that you need to mail and instructions for doing so. If it is a joint tax return, both taxpayers should be present to sign.

If you would like to itemize deductions or consider itemizing deductions, please print the Itemized Deduction Worksheet found here and complete it.

Guide to Returns Tax-Aide volunteer CAN and CANNOT prepare

We offer free tax return preparation to anyone who needs it. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers are trained to help you file a variety of income tax forms and schedules. In certain situations, however, our volunteers may be unable to provide assistance. The Volunteer Protection Act requires that our volunteers stay within the scope of tax law and policies set by the IRS and AARP Foundation. Here's a guide to what our Tax-Aide volunteers can — and can't — do.
